Leg cramps are also more common in the third trimester.
They can be very painful and normally occur in the calves.
They are caused by an increase in use/stress as well as the build up of lactic acid.
The key to treatment of these painful cramps is prevention.
Make sure to stretch your legs prior to going to bed, massage therapy, a hot shower or warm bath, adequate hydration, decrease caffeine intake, and the use of comfortable shoes.
These can all minimize painful leg cramps.
